Self-help housing

Mutual self-help housing is how neighbor households build homes together, contributing labor while FNPH coordinates the process with USDA Rural Development financing.

Your work helps build more than one home.

Participating households work on one another’s homes with supervised construction. It takes time, shared effort, and a commitment to the group.

How a build works.

  1. Share your interest

Tell FNPH how to reach you and where you live.

  2. Talk about the commitment

Ask whether a group is forming. Discuss eligibility and the labor required before deciding to take part.

  3. Build with your neighbors

Participating households contribute labor on each home in the group, with supervised construction.

  4. Work toward a home of your own

FNPH coordinates the process with USDA Rural Development financing. USDA determines final eligibility.

Could this fit your household?

Housing and income

Households generally need low or very low income and a need for safe housing in an eligible rural area.
